Amelia appears in BBC's 'Raven'

By Paul Crompton

A CHARDSTOCK teenager has beaten thousands of hopefuls to win the opportunity to star in a BBC television programme to be screened next week.

Applying to a magazine advertisement Amelia Welch,13, won the "fantastic" opportunity to go to Scotland for five weeks to film for the television series "Raven The Dragons Eye".

Whittled down from several thousand applicants through interviews and tests Amelia is one of only 36 young people chosen for the latest series filmed in Aviemore.

Amelia, who attends Colyton Grammar School, said: "Being part of Raven was so much better than I ever expected. I have enjoyed watching the Raven series in the past but to take part was incredible.

"The challenges were very hard but also a lot of fun. I know I have made some lifelong friends."

Competing in challenges as part of the Wolf team under the Raven name "Lemec", Amelia, was filming most days but had to catch up with homework between shoots and during the evenings.

Her mother, Nicola Welch said she felt it was a fantastic opportunity for Amelia to gain independence, confidence and make new friends.

"She has done tremendously well and we are very proud of her. Amelia is a very determined person," she said.

The first episode of "Raven The Dragons Eye" will be shown at 4pm on Monday 2nd, March on CBBC, with the series running until March 27th.
