30th December 2011SEATON: Big crowds for the hunt
By Laura Goldsbury Noy
A huge crowd lined Seaton seafront on Boxing Day to witness the traditional hunt.
The annual event was well supported with hundreds turning out to watch as the hunt party paraded alongside the esplanade and up Castle Hill.
The hunt first met outside The Hook and Parrot on The Esplanade, where members gathered and the stirrup cup was served.
Leading the Axe Vale Hunt was Master of the Hunt, Ross Wilmington, who led around 20 members up the hill and west out of Seaton in front of the many onlookers.
Hunt Master Mr Wilmington, said: “We were well supported by the town as we are every year by the people of Seaton, and this is a tradition that we hope we can keep alive for many years to come, as it’s a true Devonshire tradition. We had a good day with great weather and as usual the meet in Seaton went smoothly and was enjoyed by everyone.
“We would like to give special thanks to the landlord of The Hook and Parrot for being so hospitable and allowing us to all meet outside for the beginning of the hunt.“
