14th October 2011BRIDPORT: Folk dance
On Thursday, October 20th anyone interested in recreational dance gets an additional opportunity to indulge their fancy. A regular International Folk Dance Club is starting up at the British Legion Hall in Bridport.
No prior experience is necessary as all dances will be taught from scratch. Most dances will be danced in lines or open circles, therefore there is no need to bring a partner. Participants will need a reasonable level of fitness, though, as some of the dances are quite lively.
Mecki Testroet, the dance enthusiast who will be teaching the dances, was introduced to international folk dancing in 1985 and would like to share her enthusiasm and expertise with like-minded people.
“I intend to build up a repertoire gradually from different countries, including Greece, Bulgaria, Serbia and neighbouring Balkan countries; France, Israel and many other regions around the world. I’ll start with simple dances but, in time, will also introduce more intricate steps, unusual rhythms and faster speeds.”
The class will take place every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month at the British Legion Hall, 46 Victoria Grove, DT6 3AD from 7.45pm to 9.30pm. For enquiries, please ring Mecki on 01308 423 442.
