14th October 2011DALWOOD: Harvest festival auction raises £535
By Laura Goldsbury Noy
A HARVEST Festival held last month at St Peter’s Church in Dalwood was a great success, raising £535 for charity Save the Children’s “Wish List”.
The festival was a jolly affair with traditional hymns and a harvest service followed by a lunch and produce auction, auctioning off all the food which had been donated to the church as celebration gifts.
The money raised was then donated to the children’s charity, which went towards a range of gifts, chosen by the fundraisers. The donation paid for 40 chickens, two water filters, eight goats, 10 mosquito nets, 12 fruit trees, emergency food for six whole families for a month, and enough special, high-energy food to save the lives of four severely malnourished children.
Members of St Peter’s Church and the organisers of the event would like to thank everyone who donated produce or money towards the event and are really pleased with the amount raised, especially with it going to such a good cause.
