20th April 2011BEAMINSTER: Altered images catch judge's eye
CLUB chairman Harry Worthington was the winner of both the Altered Image and Storyboard competitions at the Beaminster Camera Club’s April meeting.
The Altered Image competition is designed to encourage entrants to be creative in their photography and in subsequent digital handling.
The results can be surprising, dramatic or amusing as the entry “Baa Code” proved, a photo of a sheep enhanced to show a bar code on its back.
The winner, entitled “Life in a Moss Garden”, showed unusual occupants, including a guitarist and a flamenco dancer, of the fruiting bodies on a moss plant.
The judge, Dee Wareham of Dorchester Camera Club, praised the colourful, technically sound and innovative image.
Second was Janet Haines with “Tropical Idyll” and third was Marjorie Aird whose “Swan Tapestry” sought to evoke the feeling of a real life tapestry.
The judge was impressed with the overall quality of the entries and awarded ‘Highly Commended’ to six other images.
In the storyboard competition entrants had to present a panel of photographs of a sequence of events, a collection or a theme.
Anne Hawken was third with a panel showing the feeding habits of African weaver birds.
First and second, by Harry Worthington, were “Moths collected in a Beaminster Garden in May-June 2010” and “The Historic Village of Hinton St. George” respectively.
The evening concluded with discussion of several photographs involving substantial digital handling, presented by the judge.
Club chairman, Harry Worthington, was a gracious winner of both categories and said the result “caused a little embarrassment.”
