27th September 2012BRIDPORT: Sheila launches her book
AN AUTHOR from Burton Bradstock spent the morning signing copies of her new novel ‘The Tidings Tree’ at Good Books on Gundry Lane.
Sheila Spencer-Smith also discussed her book about the personal journey of a woman still affected by events in her past.
The novel is set in a fictitious North Dorset village based on one Mrs Spencer-Smith knew well as a child.
She said: “I went camping there as a girl, first with the Brownies then with my family. We got to know the farmer and he had daughters around my age so we got on very well.”
The writer of over 40 years would not divulge where the real village lies.
She laughed: “I’m not saying where the real village is. I’m keeping it a secret.”
Good Books is a Christian bookshop and resource centre and Mrs Spencer’s feels there is a Christian sensibility running through the book.
She said: “It’s not overly Christian, but it is there in the background. I hope my faith comes through the writing rather than being strictly a Christian book.”
She is now working on the second book of the series, which has been accepted by publishers.
