8th August 2012OTTERY ST MARY: Explorer Scouts enjoy a chilled-out weekend
A group of Explorer Scouts from Ottery St Mary has just returned from a four-day “chill” camp.
The 17 Explorers aged 14 – 17 and four adults travelled from Ottery in minibuses, spending four days camping in remote woodland a few miles outside Cobham in Surrey.
The group took part in a variety of planned activities including Ice Xtreme – late night ice skating to the latest party music; ten pin bowling; a full day visit to Thorpe Park; knee boarding at Thorpe Water and time to sit back, relax, build fires and play American football.
Explorer Leader, John Green said: “The chill camp started on the first day of the school holidays. The weather was perfect for the whole time.
“The Explorers were looking after themselves, deciding what they wanted to do and where they wanted to go. The girls even worked out how they could get from the campsite to Guildford and back for some retail therapy, whilst the guys stayed at camp playing with fires!”
The Explorers are looking forward to September when they are off to North Devon for a weekend of surfing and coasteering. The group would like to thank John Capon from Otter Windows in Honiton for providing one of the minibuses for the trip and being great supporters of the Ottery St Mary Scout Group.
