By Anders Larsson:
A man charged with the murder of a baby in Ottery St Mary has been remanded in custody and committed to Crown Court.
James Hunt, 28, previously of Pellinore Road, Exeter, appeared before magistrates in Exeter on Thursday, August 9th.
A 24-year-old-woman, who had previously been arrested on suspicion of murder, has been released without charge.
Officers from Devon and Cornwall Police’s Major Crime Team led the investigation, which dates back to the end of last year.
A 10-month-old baby girl was admitted the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital, unconscious, during the evening of Monday, December 26th.
Police officers initially arrested the 28-year-old on suspicion of GBH.
Because of the serious condition the baby was in, it was decided to transfer her to a specialist hospital in Bristol, but she died on Thursday, December 29th.
The 24-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of murder in January, and the 28-year-old man was re-arrested on suspicion of murder.
A Crown Court spokesperson said a date for the man’s hearing is yet to be set.
