25th July 2012BRIDPORT: Get busy on your entry for the Melplash Show
The handicrafts, horticulture and home produce competition classes have long been one of the highlights of the Melplash Show and this year will be no exception. They are the perfect opportunity for people of all ages and talents to showcase their creativity and hobbies. This year, as always, the society section chairpersons and their team of helpers have put together an action packed line-up to appeal to both participants and attendees. Whether you grow vegetables, flowers, paint, draw, sew or bake there is a category for you; and classes for children as well as adults.
The children’s categories are brimming with exciting activities and classes for them to enter; ideal for keeping them occupied whilst they are on their school summer holidays, as well as giving them a chance to be recognised for their hard work and ingenuity too. Classes include such things as: picture of a dinosaur, miniature garden, four decorated cupcakes, a necklace made from garden materials, a vehicle made from vegetables, a scarecrow. Entries to the children’s competitions are free.
In the adult sections there are plenty of different competitions on offer including baking, handicrafts, photography, flower arranging, etc. If you are green fingered there are prizes for the best pot plant, fruit and vegetables.
There are cookery competition classes too, including the men only competition for best cheese straws. Not to mention the special cookery competitions run by The Riverside Restaurant, West Bay, this year amateur cooks are asked to produce a fish terrine- first prize being an £80 voucher to dine at the Riverside; and the curry competition run and sponsored by the Taj Mahal, Bridport and SeaSpring Seeds , West Bexington – first prize a voucher for £40 to dine at the Taj Mahal.
There is still time to enter your exhibits in the Melplash show. Schedules are available on the web www.melplashshow.co.uk or from the Show Office. The closing dates for all handicrafts, horticultural and home produce is Wednesday 15th August.
