BURTON BRADSTOCK: Nightmare in Burton Bradstock

Burton Bradstock was one of the worst affected areas when the River Bride swelled to record high levels.

At least two cars became stuck in three foot high water on the B3257 in the village.

Sarah St James said it was amazing to see the floods and the community rally around to help others.

She said: “The thing that struck me was the village all pulled together to help two elderly ladies whose house was at risk of flooding.

“People worked so hard to fill bags with gravel to put around their gate to stop the water.

“There was real community spirit on such a horrible day.”

Resident John Grantham said he received a call from a friend from Spain to say he’d just been watching the world news and was astonished to see Burton Bradstock was being featured with such prominence.

Mr Grantham said: “We have two problems in Burton – water coming down off the hills just round us that shoots down the hills and through the middle of the village … and the floods that sweep all down the Bride Valley.”
