4th July 2012SIDMOUTH: Ducks at the ready for the great river derby
Sidmouth Lions local charities and Diabetes Research will benefit from the Lions Great Duck Derby taking place on Sunday, July 15th.
Events start at 2.15pm in The Byes with children’s Duck and Spoon races.
The corporate red duck race starts at 2.45pm, with the main yellow duck race following at 3pm.
First duck home in the yellow race wins £400, second prize is £100, 3rd prize £75 and there are six £40 and ten £20 “swimmer-up” prizes.
Prior to the duck race day children can take part in the Duck in the Window competition. Prizes will be awarded in the 5-7 and 8-10 years age categories and entry forms are available from Gliddons toyshop in Church Street, Sidmouth and must be returned to the toyshop by 5pn Saturday July 14th.
There is also a duck picture competition, which may be a drawing or painting. Entries will be judged in 3 to 5, 6 to 7, 8 to 9 and 10 to 11 age ranges. Pictures should be taken to the Lions tent on the Byes by Sid Park Bridge on Duck Derby day before 2pm.
Tickets for the yellow duck race can be purchased at £1 each from 10am to 5pm at Lions stands outside the Anchor Inn, Old Fore Street, on July 3rd , 5th, 10th and 12th; outside the Co-op, High Street, Sidmouth, on July 4th, 6th, 11th and 13th and outside Lidl, Woolbrook, on July 7th and 14th. Also from Annies, Old Fore Street, and No. 83 for Cards, High Street, Sidmouth.
