10th May 2012DORCHESTER: Top awards for photographer
Following on from his recent success in winning a south-east region silver award in the "People and Portraits" competition organised by the British Institue of Professional Photographers, local photographer Andy Whale, has picked up a further two awards.
In an awards ceremony, which took place at the British Film Institute on the Southbank, London, Andy won a bronze award in the Abstract/Illustrative category for his photograph "Phoenix" in the BIPP Professional Photography Awards.
This is a showcase for professional photographers, celebrating the very best work from the United Kingdom and internationally, and are some of the most respected within the industry.
More than 1,000 images were entered, and Andy was delighted to receive one of only 21 bronze awards.
BIPP President Roy Meiklejon FBIPP said: "these awards acknowledge the achievements, sheer skill and dedication of professional photographers, and these photographers have produced some wonderful images."
Help in reaching such a successful outcome was given to Andy by local make-up artist Sian Stone whose own remarkable artistic talents created the phoenix idea.
Andy's second success this year came when he received runner-up in the Fresh Group Photographer of the Year Awards 2011, given to him for "outstanding creative and technical achievement in the field of makeover photography."
The image submitted for this award came from a makeover session held at his studios near Dorchester, and featured local hairdresser Storm Wallace.
