LYME REGIS: Council to employ admin apprentice

LYME Regis Town Council is to employ an apprentice administrative assistant for the first time and have agreed to pay a young person £3.68 an hour, the equivalent of an annual salary of £5,964.

Several members of the council’s Strategy and Policy Committee expressed concern about paying a youngster such a low salary but it was explained by administrative assistant Vicky Stickler, who will supervise the apprentice, they could pay an hourly rate of just £2.60 because there was an element of training involved at a local technical college.

The apprentice will also be paid expenses for travelling to the college.
