2nd May 2012HONITON: Honiton artist makes final of BBC competition
A Honiton artist has made it into the finals of two categories of the BBC Wildlife Artist of the Year 2012 competition.
Emma Bowring has two entries in the final of the “World Mammals” category and one in the “British Mammals” category.
For a day job, Emma runs Honiton Sports with husband Graham, but she is also an up and coming wildlife artist.
She described her fledgling career by saying: “I had been just doing it as a hobby with a few commissions until last year when I decided to give it a go ‘professionally’.
“I entered some pictures into the Marwell International Wildlife Art Society (MIWAS) exhibition and also into the National Exhibition of Wildlife Art in Chester.
“I sold at both and will be going into more wildlife exhibitions this year along with some local open exhibitions.
“I designed myself a website at the end of last year and started producing some of my originals as limited edition prints, and have had them for sale in the shop with a donation going to David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation from the sale.
“I have also then got them into a few places locally.
“Having had a lot of positive comments from customers in the shop about my work I felt confident enough to enter some of my work into BBC Wildlife Artist of the year 2012.”
Her confidence was justified as three of her oil paintings made it to the final stage.
The category winners will be published in the August 2012 issue of BBC Wildlife and displayed at the MIWAS exhibition in August 2012.
The overall BBC Wildlife Artist of the Year 2012 wins a place for one person on a 10-day painting safari with Pip McGarry in Botswana in October 2012.
