LYME REGIS: A trip down memory lane

Photos to remember the people of Lyme

PICTURE 1: The Woodroffe School football team, believed to be taken in 1974, overlooking the school’s tennis courts where the Sports Hall now stands.

The photo was sent in by deputy mayor and former Lyme Regis Football Club player, Councillor Daryl Turner (pictured front row, far right), who is keen to find out who the rest of his team mates are.

Councillor Turner believes the photo includes his teacher (name unknown), Simon Perry, Nigel Biddicombe, Peter Kirkman and a student with the last name Stimpson (first name unknown).

If anyone can name more of the team, please contact the View From offices on 01297 446155.

PICTURE 2: A group of likely lads pictured in 1952, the year that Queen Elizabeth started her 60-year reign. The cliffs between Lyme and Charmouth provided great attractions for the young men of Lyme in those days and pictured having a bit of fun are (back row) Les Loveridge, Brian Collier and George Cook. Pictured (sitting) are Brian Holmes and Henry Rice.  The photograph was loaned to us by Les Loveridge.

If you have an old photo of Lyme (particularly from the Coronation year) pop it into our offices at St Michael’s Business Centre and we will copy it while you wait and publish it in a future edition.
