14th March 2012LYME REGIS: Rotary president welcomes guests to annual celebration
LYME Regis Rotary Club President, David Bettes, welcomed guests from Bridport, Axminster and Dorchester to his President’s Night on Saturday.
The annual President’s Night was held at Lyme Regis Golf Club, where the Mayor, Councillor Sally Holman, and Mayoress Jane Whittington were guests of honour.
The Mayor spoke highly of the achievements of the Rotary Club, not only throughout the past year but throughout its history, a sentiment echoed by Rotary Assistant Governor, Judy Barnard-Jones, who was also a guest of honour along with her husband Keith, an ex-RIBI President.
Praise was given especially for the assistance Rotary has given to the youth of Lyme Regis, including the Scouts and local schools, sailing club and ArtsFest poetry evening, not to mention the funds raised for the air ambulance, RNLI and other worthy causes .
The Mayor also urged Rotarians to continue with the annual Carols Around the Tree and Lyme Lunge, both of which were now firmly established as highly popular events in the Lyme calendar.
The President thanked Rotarians for their support throughout his year in office. He welcomed the President of Bridport Rotary Club, Malcolm French, and his wife Helen. Bridport is the mother club of Lyme Regis Rotary and representatives have attended the President’s Night for over 60 years.
Mr Bettes also spoke of his delight at the continued collaboration with Axminster Rotary Club in the annual Golf Day, which raises so much for local causes, welcoming the President of Axminster Rotary Club, Bernie Styles, and his wife Marjorie.
He assured the Mayor that the carols and lunge would continue under Rotary’s banner, with new events planned this year to continue the service of Rotary to the local community.
