1st February 2012LYME REGIS FOOTBALL: Seasiders hunting silverware on two fronts
LYME Regis teams booked a place in two cup semi-finals with convincing home wins last Saturday.
The first team hammered Combe Reserves 8-0 in a Perry Street League Challenge Cup tie at the Davey Fort and have now won their last 19 matches and racked up over 100 goals for the season.
The victory earns the Seasiders, finalists in five of the last seven seasons, a semi-final clash with Ilminster Town Reserves.
Before that the two teams meet at Ilminster’s Recreation Ground in a Premier League fixture next weekend.
Lyme Bantams also have a semi-final to look forward to after they beat Hawkchurch United Reserves 6-2 at the Woodroffe School.
The match was a personal triumph for striker Pete Peacock who became the first player to ever score six times in a single game for the team.
The Bantams turn their attention back to Division Four and the visit of Barrington Reserves on Saturday.
It wasn’t such a good day for the Seasiders’ Reserve team who offered little in front of goal in a Division One Dorset local-derby as they went down 2-0 at Netherbury.
The team will hope for better when they entertain bottom-of-the-table Ilminster Colts at the Davey Fort on Saturday.
Over the county border at Uplyme, Reserve teamer Chris Matthews made a seamless step up to the first XI as he came off the subs bench to score the last two goals in a convincing 5-0 win over Chard Rangers at Venlake.
Uplyme entertain Crewkerne Rangers on Saturday. The club’s Reserve team is once again without a scheduled fixture.
After a week off Charmouth return to Division two action with a tough-looking trip to promotion candidates Crewkerne Town Reserves.
There were two more fine performances from the Lyme Regis Youth teams.
The under 12s, with Cody Bowditch scoring both goals, went down 3-2 at home against third-placed Dorchester Town Stars. The team travel to lowly Swanage & Herston on Sunday.
Meanwhile the under 14s completed a league double over neighbours Bridport in a 3-0 win on their travels. James Souter-Phillips opened the scoring before Declan Ellis netted twice to seal the win.
The Seasiders, still lying in second place, have now opened up a seven-point lead over Bridport in the Dorset Division One table.
