1st December 2011WEYMOUTH: Painting comes back home to its beginning
By Harry Walton
A BIRMINGHAM artist so liked a sketch by local historian Eric Ricketts that he photographed it and produced a full scale painting from it.
Ray Duffy then donated his painting to Weymouth’s Tudor House where he had first seen the sketch.
He said: “I just liked the idea of 400-year-old buildings existing surrounded by a modern harbour.
“The sketch captured boat building in the 1600s and producing a painting of it was a labour of love. I enjoyed every minute of it.”
The painting and sketch show water right into Ope where the Tudor House was built.
Tudor House custodian Eileen O’Brien said: “We are delighted to get this painting and it was very generous of Mr Duffy to donate it.
“We will have to find a suitable place to hang it. He suggested the loo!”
