16th November 2011DORCHESTER FOOTBALL: No immediate decision expected on new Magpies boss
WITH still more interviews planned for this week and the probability of second meetings with some of the candidates, Dorchester Town Chairman Shaun Hearn believes no decision on a successor to Ashley Vickers is expected until at least the end of this week.
Speaking with View Sport after last Saturday’s home game against Hampton & Richmond Borough that saw caretaker manager Phil Simkin’s side make it four wins and a draw since he took temporary charge, the chairman said: We’ve had five or six come in this week for a chat and three more next week. We’ve made some headway but having spoken to some people, we need to speak to some of them again in a second interview. We’ve seen so many positives in everyone we have spoken to; the quality is very impressive.
“Whatever we will do, we will take our time; it’s vitally important to get the right person for the job.”
Hearn was pleased with the number of applications, but was also full of credit for the current management team and the efforts of the players.
“We had 26 in total apply for the job which is good considering we didn’t advertise it, and it’s quite flattering the interest we have had.
“Obviously Phil (Simkin) and Jem (Mark Jermyn) have done a good job, and Gary Borthwick has also come in. They have motivated the lads well, and they have responded positively and so we are on a bit of a roll at the moment which is good.”
Hearn also indicated that the club needed to stay sound financially and that the successful candidate needed to be aware of that fact, he said: “The guys at the football club are good people, and it’s important that this club continues to live within its means whilst taking it to the next level. We can’t break the bank for anybody, whether it’s a player or manager, it’s the same for both.
“At the moment we’ll just enjoy the results that have come our way. The lads worked hard again today and I think they deserved to win in the end.”
