14th October 2011CREWKERNE: Anyone for tea?
CREWKERNE based mail order tee-shirt company Kettlewell Colours, recently raised £128 for Marie Curie Cancer Care when staff, friends and family were challenged to a bake-off.
Marie Curie Cancer Care asked supporters across Somerset and Dorset to hold a “Blooming Great Tea Party”.
Over 200 local people, schools, businesses in the area held a party and the charity were delighted to report that an enormous £17,258 was raised.
Amy Llewellyn, community fundraiser manager for Marie Curie Cancer Care said : “It costs £20 an hour or £180 for a whole night for us to provide quality end of life nursing care in a patient’s own home. The generous people who organised their own tea parties have raised enough to pay for 863 hours of care in our community and we’d like to say a very big thank you to them all.”
Tea parties can take all sorts of forms from a gathering of friends in someone’s home, a garden party, community club event or a workplace fundraiser.
Susie Collis from Kettlewell said: “With a company name like Kettlewell we simply had to put our kettle on and join in to raise money for Marie Curie. It was great fun and we hope to take part again next year.”
