12th October 2011BRIDPORT: Barracudas are in the swim again
By Tom Glover
BRIDPORT Barracudas came out on top, as swimmers once again raised a record total for the Bridport Lions.
Fewer teams swam fewer laps at the 18th annual Bridport swimarathon, but fundraising efforts were improved with £3,200 collected in sponsorship.
A total of 26 teams took part this year, two less than last year, swimming 1,402 laps. Swimming furthest, for the second year running, was Bridport Barracudas team “Mary’s Boys”.
The team swam 103 laps in their 55-minute time slot, two more than last year.
The most laps by a junior entry was also a Bridport Barracudas team for the second year running. The “Minor Birds” matched last year’s efforts by swimming 83 laps.
The mixed winners were Bridport Brownies “Swimming Seals”, who completed 60 laps.
Bridport Lions Peter Garlick said: “All the swimmers certainly put a lot of effort in and I know several teams exceeded their previous best.
“Bridport Lions would like to thank all the teams for their sponsorship and continued support.
“Bridport Lions would also like to say a big thank you to our main sponsor again, Mr Andrew Fowkes of Bridec Melamine Boards, and to all our other sponsors of money and raffle prizes.”
The record fundraising total will be split between local charities and organisations.
