7th October 2011SIDMOUTH: Anyone for cake?
Following the trend across the country, Sidmouth hosted numerous events for the “World’s Biggest Coffee Morning” all in aid of Macmillan Cancer.
One coffee morning was held last Friday at Sidmouth Methodist Church where Sidmouth’s Macmillan Cancer Support Group raised £300.
The morning was a huge success with many coming through the doors to enjoy a range of homemade cakes and refreshments.
Joyce Burnham, Chairman of the Sidmouth Support Group said: “I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who supported the local Sidmouth Committee of Macmillan Cancer last Friday.
“We are pleased with the money we raised, which was a good amount considering there were 16 other registered coffee mornings taking place in and around Sidmouth all on the same day.
“My grateful thanks also go to all the ladies who made and donated cakes as well as thanks to Vinnicombes and Baraza for their cakes.
“Thanks must also go to Celia Monck and Wally Cotgrave for their super busking which brought a smile and encouraged people to join us for a coffee and chat.”
Other upcoming events held by Sidmouth’s Macmillan supporters include a Christmas coach trip to visit Bristol’s German Christmas markets on November 17th.

Mrs Burnham added: “Now one in three people are being diagnosed with cancer and without holding events such as this, we would not be able to raise funds as we do, which go a long way to helping people who have cancer or have had cancer.
“Macmillan are there from diagnosis right through to rehabilitation, not only do we provide medical support, but also emotional, practical and financial support.”
