29th September 2011BEAMINSTER ARCHERY: Ben hits all the targets
A BEAMINSTER School pupil who only took up archery seriously 18 months ago is already on target to becoming one of the country’s top archers and has already achieved national champion status.
Ben Eve, a Year 8 pupil at Beaminster School, joined Bride Valley Junior Archers only 18 months ago following a short introduction with archery at an after school club run by coach Paul Kingston.
Since then he has gone from strength to strength in his achievements, having travelled the country competing in the barebow form of the sport in both Target and Field competitions where he has been successful in gaining six national, and countless regional and county records.
Ben was selected as one of the seven ‘Team England’ members at the National Junior Field Championships held in the Lake District in August, and followed this earlier this month by representing Dorset and Witshire at the Junior Inter-counties Championships.
Along with club members Reuben Kingston, Jenny Stazicker and William Stazicker, the team finished second overall with Ben successfully winning the barebow Juniors U18 event.
Eve is currently the Junior National U14 indoor and U14 Outdoor Barebow champion, and also won the British U14 Indoor Barebow Championship last November where he was also positioned 7th in the World for his performance at the event in his respective category.
This year he has been awarded the prestigious Junior Master Bowman (JMB) award for his U14 age group by achieving qualifying scores at Record Status Shoots.
The JMB is a classification awarded by Archery GB, the UK national governing body for archery that recognises the top 1½ per cent of archers that regularly attend competition events for their respective bow style, gender and age group.
Ben is planning to continue his success with many planned events in the next coming months.
