23rd September 2011HONITON: Hospice team here to help
Honiton Hospiscare Support Group held a bargain sale at the Mackarness Hall on Tuesday.
The event included tea, coffees, refreshments and stalls ranging from plants and produce to bric-a-brac, books, linen, cakes and marmalades.
The Hospiscare group run regular fundraising events, at least once a month, ranging from lunches and suppers to table top sales, to support Honiton and District Hospiscare and the surrounding area.
The Honiton volunteers began primarily to support a nurse in the Honiton area, however, through funding, Honiton and District now have three specialist nurses who work with and support terminally ill patients all over the local area.
All money raised goes to the local charity based in Exeter where there is a hospice caring for many patients.
The volunteers were also recently presented with the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service at Powderham castle, Exeter.
The award is given to individual companies and charities who play a major part in helping others in the local area and nationally, and is the equivalent to an individual’s MBE.
Eric Smith, a member of the Honiton Hospiscare Support Group said: “We have been supported well today and we are very grateful for the funds raised.
“We hold events on a regular basis and we hope that the local community will continue to support this worthy cause.”
Upcoming local Hospiscare events include a Supper Evening at 7pm on Wednesday, October 5th at the Mackarness Hall and a wine tasting evening by Wine World of Honiton at Honiton Community College on Friday, October 7th at 6.45pm.
There will also be a lunch at the Mackarness Hall on Tuesday, October 18th from 11am until 1.30pm.
Another major event in aid of Hospiscare is The Joanna Leach Memorial Recitals, by international Steinway artist and pianist, Andreas Boyde. Tickets are £15/£12 and are available from Honiton Tourist Information Centre.
The event will take place at St Paul’s Church in Honiton, on Saturday, November 26th at 7.30pm.
