23rd September 2011HONITON: Students begin fundraising for trip to India
By Laura Goldsbury Noy
Eight students from Honiton Community College have begun fundraising for next year’s summer expedition to India.
The pupils will be going away for three weeks in July 2012 working on community and sustainable projects in India.
A main part of the project will be working in an orphanage for a week whilst on the trip.
On past expeditions with World Challenge, participants have carried out project work revolving around construction, for example cutting water systems to provide a source of clean water, and next year’s project will be similar to this concept.
World Challenge, the organisers of the trip, provides expedition opportunities for teenagers and youngsters all over the UK. The company will arrange flights, accommodation and the main aspects of the trip, but the main fundraising will be organised by the students as a chance for them to learn about managing money and team work.
As well as general fundraising in a group, the individual students will also need to raise money towards their individual trip costs.
Rory Norrington has organised a concert in aid of his India Expedition. The music concert will feature clarinettists, saxophonists, pianists, singers and guitarists. There will also be a raffle and refreshments available.
The concert will take place on Saturday, October 1st at St Paul’s Church in Honiton from 2.30pm to 4.30pm.
Tickets are available to buy at The Curtain Trader, 52 High Street, Honiton, or by calling 07850 411350.
Adult tickets are £4 in advance and £5 on the door. Child tickets are £2.50.
