9th September 2011HONITON: Enthusiastic support for new community festival
Community development workers from East Devon District Council, Victoria Robinson and Polly Anderson, created a welcome diversion for families and young people running out of things to do with the last days of their summer holidays. They brought together local communities to create a Community Festival at All Hallows Field on August 31st.
This was in response to a consultation carried out in Honiton earlier in the year, when it was identified that more activities for children and young people would help improve the satisfaction of Honiton residents.
The event was a huge success with hundreds coming to enjoy the free bouncy castle, circus skills and face painting. Donations were received to help fund a similar event next year. Other attractions included a re-cycle stall from EDDC Waste Management, a barbecue run by the rugby club together with a jumble sale and snack bar, body stencils from the children’s centre, a candy floss stall, guess the name of the doll and knit wear from Blesma. The community police came to support the event as did Vice Chairman Councillor Francis Newth and Councillor Phil Twiss from Honiton St Michael’s ward.
Polly and Victoria were thrilled with the level of community involvement and to have such enthusiastic support from the councillors, local groups and the residents of Honiton.
It is hoped that next year’s event will be bigger and better with more community groups coming forward to get involved and to celebrate the great community spirit of the Honiton people.
For more information or to run a stall, do a display, raise money or awareness of your group at next year’s event please contact Victoria or Polly on Tel 01395 516551 ext 2372 or at [email protected].
