9th September 2011ILMINSTER: New headteacher for middle school
SWANMEAD School in Ilminster has started the term with a new headteacher, Mark Walker, who will be meeting parents at a special evening on Wednesday, September 14th, in the school hall from 6.30pm.
In the first newsletter of the new term Mr Walker wrote: “It is a privilege to write to you to introduce myself as the new headteacher of Swanmead Community School. I am delighted to have been appointed and will work tirelessly to continue to promote the best interests of pupils, staff and the local community.
“A good education is crucial to the wellbeing and fulfilment of our children. As society continues to change, it is important that schools provide a safe and stable environment where all young people feel valued and where they can learn and achieve. I believe that high quality teaching and learning is at the heart of every good school and I look forward to working with staff at Swanmead to ensure that our children have the best opportunities to be successful.
“In order to ensure a smooth transition I took the opportunity to spend as much time as I could at Swanmead during the summer term. I found that the school has many strengths and, in particular, have been struck by the warm, welcoming and friendly atmosphere. I would like to thank Mrs Sheila Bowker for her excellent work over the course of many years at Swanmead. Mrs Bowker has ensured that the school has continued to move forward whilst acting as headteacher and I am truly grateful for all the time and experience she has given me over the course of the last few months.
“As well as 71 new year five children, we also welcome several new members of staff to the Swanmead team. Miss Helen Ingram joins us from Cheltenham to lead Performing Arts throughout the school whilst Mr Robert Nelson starts as our new ICT Technician. Our Learning Support Team is strengthened with the appointments of Mr Nick Boyland, Mr Louis Rideout, Miss Josie Cope and Mrs Tracy Robertson. I trust they will be made to feel as welcome as I have.
“For the first time, I have wished the summer break to go quickly, as I look forward with excitement and enthusiasm to starting my first term at Swanmead.”
