1st July 2011SIDMOUTH: Raising a glass to hidden gem
Libra Court, one of Sidmouth’s many hidden wonders, held a special opening evening last week, to remind visitors of its specialist shops and to celebrate the three new businesses that have opened there this year.
Sidmouth Town Council Chairman Stuart Hughes attended the event on Thursday of last week, and said the cluster of crafts, jewellery, fashion and art galleries reminded him of London’s Camden Market.
He said: “I’d like to congratulate you all for your entrepreneurial spirit and I wish you all the very best for the future.”
The tiny shops and open-air café are arranged around a courtyard just off Fore Street, near the seafront; open daily all year round.
Visitors were treated to wine and nibbles provided by The Cheeseboard of Sidmouth High Street and live music from guitarist Brent Nelson.
The shops include Made – fashion and art, Selley’s Café, and Driftwood – engraved wooden gift boxes; as well as newcomers A Real gem – jewellery shop, Open Art Studio – original artwork and prints, and Maisie Daisy textile and crafts.
