1st July 2011SIDMOUTH: Facelift boost for Guides
Sidmouth Guides HQ, just off the Byes, has been boosted with a major internal facelift, thanks to donations from the Sid Vale Association and Sidmouth Town Council.
The guides’ hut has had a new kitchen fitted, as well as improved toilet and shower facilities.
Guides Association District Commissioner Christine Chapman, Chair of Sidmouth Guides Committee Jane Bell, and Grace Essex, Chairman of the Trefoil Guild, attended a presentation by Stuart Hughes, Chairman of Sidmouth Town Council, who handed over a cheque for £1,000 to the Guides.
The Sid Vale Association also donated £10,000 towards the building work, which was carried out by local builder Mark Denning.
Thanking the organisations for their support, Ms Chapman said that it was much needed, as the guides have been enjoying increasing popularity recently.
She said: “We have doubled in numbers in Sidmouth over the last three years but new members are always welcome. I would also like to hear from anyone interested in being a volunteer leader.”
