23rd June 2011WEYMOUTH: Operatic society Crazy for You
WEYMOUTH Operatic Society is forging ahead with preparations for its latest production, Crazy For You.
Dubbed as one of the “jukebox musicals”, it incorporates a long list of hit songs by George and Ira Gershwin and combines several Gershwin musical plots into one in a similar style to Mamma Mia which combined much loved Abba hits.
The musical’s storyline has Bobby Child, a well-to-do 193's playboy, whose dream in life is to dance. Despite the serious efforts of his mother and soon-to-be-ex-fiancee, Bobby achieves his dream.
Memorable Gershwin tunes include ‘I Can't Be Bothered Now,’ ‘Bidin' My Time,’ ‘I Got Rhythm,’ ‘Naughty Baby,’ ‘They Can't Take That Away from Me,’ ‘But Not for Me,’ ‘Nice Work if You Can Get It,’ ‘Embraceable You’ and ‘Someone to Watch Over Me.’
This high energy comedy also includes mistaken identity, plot twists, fabulous dance numbers and classic Gershwin music.
Weymouth Operatic Society members will be selling tickets for the show from a stand next to the White Hart Pub (opposite Debenhams) from 10am-4pm on Saturday July 2nd, Saturday July 9th, Friday July 15th and Saturday July 16th, when they will be playing the music and singing excerpts from the show to drum up support.
Tickets can also be bought from the Pavilion Theatre box office in Weymouth on 01305 783225 and on line at www.weymouthpavilion.purchase-tickets-online.co.uk/public. They cost £10 and £12 for the event which runs from July 20th-23rd.
