20th April 2011BEAMINSTER: Simon keeps on running
LAWRENCES Auctioneer and Beaminster Cricketer Simon Jones completed his marathon a week earlier than the masses in London at the weekend.
The runner joined 12,000 others on Sunday, April 10th to complete the Brighton Marathon.
It was Simon’s first marathon and he completed it in a time of 4 hours 45 minutes, raising almost £2000 for Breast Cancer Research in the process.
Simon said: “It was a wonderful experience, with around 100,000 spectators in Brighton on the day. The time was a little slower that I had hoped, but the hot weather on the day really took it’s toll on me and the rest of the field in the second half of the race.
“I would like to say a big thank you to all the people who sponsored me which has included friends and family, cricketers from Beaminster Cricket Club, customers of Lawrences Auctioneers, and local firms who have all been very generous. A particular mention to Lawrences Auctioneers, Wakely’s Funeral Directors, Stokes Partnership Solicitors, Guy Crabb Plumbers, and Delta Plumbers for their kind sponsorship
“Due to everyones kind efforts we are approaching £2,000 which is a nice amount to give to such a good cause”
