BEAMINSTER: Students make th headlines

By Tom Glover

CLASSROOMS were transformed into newsrooms as Beaminster School took part in the BBC News School Report.

Year nine pupils in the school took part in the project as part of their Stop the Clock day, joining thousands of others from across the UK.

Each class was assigned the task of preparing a five-minute live news bulletin for TV or radio.

A total of 120 students took part taking on roles such as editors, reporters, researchers, presenters and cameramen.

The stories covered ranged from national events including the uprising in Libya to local news in Beaminster and at the school. There were also sports reports, weather forecasts, celebrity gossip and interviews.

The groups were given the whole day to prepare their broadcast before going live at 3pm.

The reports will now be uploaded onto the school’s website.
