26th August 2015SEATON: Mayor announces one-to-one surgeries
by Anders Larsson
SEATON Mayor Tony Woodman’s reforms to make Seaton Town Council more accessible and accountable continue with the announcement of one-to-one surgeries.
Seaton residents will be able to raise any issues of concern with Mayor Tony Woodman face-to-face during a series of monthly surgeries. Three surgeries will be held in September on a trial basis.
When elected to the top job this spring, Cllr Woodman promised “a town council accountable to the people”.
He quickly amended the meeting process so that public forum can include any town council business, not only what is on the agenda.
He also announced plans for regular surgeries, which have now been revealed.
The mayor will be holding the first of his new surgeries in the members' room at Seaton Town Hall on Tuesday, September 1st from 10am to 12noon, and everyone is invited to attend and speak to him.
He said: “When I was elected I said I wanted the council to be more accountable and more accessible to the local people.
“These surgeries are new and they will give people the opportunity to pop in and have a chat about things that may be concerning them.
“It also gives them the chance to let us know about things we may be unaware of.
“I will give what advice I can and hopefully point people in the right direction if their issue is not one for the town council.
“I hope people will take this opportunity to come in and let us know what they think.”
Further surgeries, all from 10am to 12noon, will be held on Tuesday, September 15th and Tuesday, September 29th.
Cllr Woodman will then decide if there is a need to continue with the surgeries.
He elaborated by saying: “It all depends on the response. People have often said to me that the surgeries would be a good idea. Now is the time to see.”
