The East Devon Sing and Sign team has raised £500 so far for Race For Life, with more expected to be added to the total.
Team members Bev Norman, Sarah Glover and Amy Gimson completed a 5k Race For Life on July 26th, taking Sing and Sign’s national total to £14k.
Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life is a series of women-only events raising money for research into all types of cancer.
Sing and Sign, on the other hand, is a concept “helping babies communicate before speech”.
Sarah Glover, who has been running a Sing and Sign group in Honiton for about 10 years, said: “Earlier in the year Sing and Sign decided to start a nationwide campaign to support Race for Life and it spurred me on to participate.
“Apart from helping to raise money for a worthy cause, she had another reason to get stuck in.
Sarah explained: “I was diagnosed with ME four years ago.
“I really want other sufferers to know that it is possible to lead an active life with the right support and pacing.
“I hope other people will be inspired to take control of the ME, rather than it controlling you.
“I power walked most of the 5k, but ran the last 50 metres, finishing in 40 minutes. It was way beyond my expectations.
“I would also like to thank everyone who has sponsored me and my team, it was the final boost that propelled us across the finish line!
“If you would like to add to our total, there is a Just Giving link on East Devon Sing and Sign Facebook Page.”
