28th September 2012CREWKERNE: Crewkerne student reaches dizzy heights
FORMER Wadham School student Karl Taylor, has shown that volunteering can take you to great heights, after recently doing his bit at the London 2012 Olympics.
Student Karl, from Clapton Mill near Crewkerne, volunteered at both the Olympics and Paralympics London 2012 as part of the stage lighting crew which supported all the opening and closing ceremonies, adding a tremendous entry to his CV.
He said the rehearsals at Dagenham and many hours spent in the Olympic Park in Stratford had provided him with an incredible “once-in- a lifetime” opportunity and the chance to see so many of the athletes and celebrities involved.
Karl is now a second year student at Rose Bruford College in London studying for a degree in creative lighting control, following a lifelong interest.
His passion began with being involved with the lighting in school plays and productions at both Maiden Beech and Wadham Schools in Crewkerne and as a member of the Crewkerne amateur theatre group CUDOS.
The young technician has also had a long involvement with the Scouting movement and continues as a member of Somerset Network having progressed through Crewkerne Cubs, Scouts and Explorers. He proudly sported his Scout scarf as he worked at the Olympic Stadium.
Future projects for Karl include working at The Royal Opera House and undergoing training to become a Special Constable with the Metropolitan Police Force.
