19th September 2012AXMINSTER: Young people urged to get their ideas down on paper
Honiton and District Writers' Group's 2012 Young Writers' Competition is open to those aged 5-18 who live in East Devon.
The competition is sponsored by The Gibbons Family Trust, and the mission is to write an original story of up to 750 words on any subject.
Writing group member John Carter said: "Last year’s competition was a great success and we had some wonderful work from many young authors, so we know there is real talent out there.
“So come on you young writers, why not brush the dust of those imaginative ideas you have been storing up and once again show us what you can do, even if it’s your first effort at writing a story, have a go.”
The entries will again be judged by popular children’s writer T. M. Alexander, author of the Tribe series of books.
Mr Carter added: "Sixty-three junior schools and nine senior schools are being asked to get involved, but any resident East Devon boy or girl can enter.
"Six winners will be chosen from the two junior age groups and six from the two senior age groups.
"Each will receive a signed framed certificate, a generous gift token and an author's signed book."
Entries must be in by November 10th and prizes will be presented at a reception in early December.
Stories should be sent with a title and a separate sheet showing name, age, telephone number and address, (with consent from parents/teachers) to: John Carter, Smokey House, Yarcombe, Honiton, Devon EX14 9AD.
Honiton and District Writers' Group meets at 7.30pm on the first Thursday of every month in Monkton Court Hotel, Monkton.
