1st August 2012LYME REGIS: Business studies students organising Oxjam event
BUSINESS studies students at the Woodroffe School in Lyme Regis are organising a number of live music events, which will form part of the annual Oxjam Music Festival.
The national event, which has been running since 2006, has raised over £1.75 million for Oxfam’s work.
Local events will be taking place in several venues around Lyme Regis, including the Marine Theatre, the Marine Parade shelters and at The Hub, over the weekend of October 12th and 13th.
The students are aiming to raise at least £500 and are putting out a request for any local bands, solo artists or DJs who would be willing to take part.
Business studies teacher Martin Banfield said: “This is an incredible opportunity for the students, all of which have never been involved in organising anything on this scale. As well as organising a successful event, which will raise a lot of money for Oxfam, they are also being assessed on it; so what they do will contribute to their final grade.”
The 14 students, who are studying event planning as part of their course, are being led by appointed project manager, Sebastian Board.
He said: “This is something that we see as a great challenge. We are really motivated and want to organise something that the people of Lyme will remember and talk about. Hopefully, if all goes well, this could become an annual event in the area.”
Plans for the events include an evening of live music at the Marine Theatre, an afternoon of busking and acoustic live music at the Marine Parade shelters, an evening of live music at The Hub, exclusively for under 18s, showcasing young local bands.
