25th July 2012SEATON: Sell out choir concert delights audience
Seaton’s Voice were delighted to host a fantastic sell out performance of the Axe Valley Community Choir concert at ‘The Gateway’, Seaton Town Hall on Saturday, July 14th.
The event was organised to launch the newly recorded choir CD ‘We Made It Through the Rain’ and to fundraise for Macmillan Cancer Support and the Town Hall.
The packed audience were treated to a mixture of music and songs.
Choir members Ben and Gill Jones gave a lovely rendition of ‘To Make You Feel My Love’ , Elaine Stratford ended the Jubilee song ‘Sing’ with a beautiful solo and Mary Bowles delighted with ‘Moon River’. This was another triumph for the choirs’ Musical Director, Edward Jacobs, who also played classical and lighter piano solos during the performance. As well as directing the Axe Valley Community Choir Edward also works as a performer, music teacher and music consultant. He spends part of his week in South East Cornwall, and during the performance one of his pupils from Saltash, nine year old Shannah Russell made a special appearance. She wowed the crowd with her solo ‘My Heart Will Go On’.
Another guest artist, talented saxophonist, Jonathan Davies, a local seventeen year old played two very polished pieces. Tina Mackenney, at short notice, stepped in to a accompany the choir on the electric piano and Simon Greenwood was bass guitarist. He was also the sound engineer and recorded and mixed the choir CD at his studio in Exeter.
The voices of the seventy strong choir harmoniously filled the room and the audience didn’t want it to end, so the choir delighted with an encore of ‘When I Fall In Love’. “We can’t wait for a return performance”, said Carol Manley from Seaton’s Voice.
