19th July 2012DORCHESTER: Mayor visits venue for ball
DORCHESTER Mayor Councillor Andy Canning paid a visit to Athelhampton House in advance of the grand Harvest Ball that is being held there on October 12th by local charity Home-Start West Dorset.
Mayor Canning, who has adopted Home-Start West Dorset as his Charity of the Year for 2012, was very pleased at the choice of venue and declared how much he was looking forward to going to the ball with his wife and son.
“I am backing Home-Start West Dorset as my Mayoral Charity this year as I want to help local young families get through these difficult economic times,” said Mayor Canning.
“Home-Start West Dorset helps by finding and training experienced volunteers to provide advice, support and assistance to help young families re-discover the joys of family life.
“There are plenty of families in need and plenty of local people who want to help. By supporting Home-Start I am aiming to help them raise extra funds so that they can provide the necessary training so that more local families than ever before can get the help they need.
“One of the major events we are organising is a Harvest Ball on October 12th at Athelhampton House.
“This will be a fun-filled evening held against a beautiful historic backdrop. Why not come along, enjoy the evening and help us to help local young families all at the same time!”
Janet Kennewell, chair of the trustees of Home-Start West Dorset commented: “We’re over the moon to be chosen as the Mayor’s Charity of the Year.
“It’s a huge boost for us and will increase awareness of our work supporting young families who need a helping hand.
“Home-Start West Dorset does many fundraising events but the Harvest Ball is the biggest so far.
“Athelhampton House is a lovely venue of course; I’ve seen the delicious four course menu and we have great plans for the entertainment on the night. This promises to be an evening not to be missed.
“This is our inaugural Ball and we very much hope it will be a regular event on the calendar. I’d like to thank the many people who have bought tickets. We have very few tables left already.”
Mrs Kennewell added: “Both Laura Dean and Owen Davies of Athelhampton House have been very supportive and professional helping our planning of the Harvest Ball.
“Their advice has been invaluable.”
Tickets are £45 per person for tables of eight and are available from Helen or Gemma at the office at Prospect House, Peverell Avenue East, Poundbury DT1 3WE T or by calling 01305 755608.
