18th July 2012BEAMINSTER: Year 10 students return from successful field trip to Porlock Bay collecting data
BEAMINSTER School’s year 10 GCSE geographers have just returned from their field trip to Porlock Bay on the Somerset coast, led by head of geography Matthew Curtis-Dyke.
As part of their controlled fieldwork assignment, students investigated the process of longshore drift along the beach.
In their coursework students used their data to complete a range of presentaton and statistical skills such as proportional symbols, interquartile ranges and the Mann Whitney U Test.
Geography has become more and more popular at Beaminster, with student numbers doubling in recent years.
Mr Curtis-Dyke said: “I would like to thank all parents, guardians and the other members of staff who took part for their support, and to thank the students for their excellent efforts.”
