14th June 2012BRIDPORT Food festival is underway
The 8th Bridport Food Festival is in full swing with enough events throughout the week to satisfy the most famished food fanatic.
Attractions include food tasting at Felicity’s Farm Shop, an 18th century tea party at the Town Hall and sausage making by England’s oldest butchers, RJ Balson & Son.
The week culminates in a showcase event at Asker’s Meadow on Saturday June 16th, with food stalls, cooking demonstrations, a farmers’ market and a children’s marquee among the draws.
Visitors to Asker’s Meadow will also be given the chance to win gourmet prizes, including dinner for two at The White House, Charmouth, through the Local Food Links raffle in aid of Children in Need.
Kathy Dare, in charge of festival marketing, was delighted to see so many established Bridport producers joining forces with newer ventures to make the week such a success.
She said: “It’s great to see older, traditional Bridport names like Balson’s the butchers and Long’s Fish Bar buying into the festival.
“We’ve also been trying to get people from the surrounding area involved, and that’s gone well.”
Tickets for the Asker’s Meadow (Sea Road South) main event cost £2 in advance from Bridport Tourist Information, or £2.50 on the gate.
Children under 14 go free. All proceeds are ploughed back into the festival for next year’s event.
