2nd May 2012LYME REGIS: Tai chi at Treetops
RESIDENTS at Treetops care home in Lyme Regis enjoyed a sit-down tai chi lesson last week.
The residents were visited by tai chi instructors Allan Howlings and Margaret Marciniak and learnt that although tai chi is a martial art, it can also be used to improve health and boost energy.
Allan and Margaret, who recently moved to the area from Buckinghamshire, have adapted traditional tai chi moves so that elderly participants can enjoy them while sitting down. The residents at Treetops took part in simple exercises, which could improve balance, circulation and help to keep them calm.
Allan and Margaret currently run tai chi lessons at Millwey Rise in Axminster but will be starting sessions at Lyme Regis Football Club on Monday, May 14th. Sitting down and standing lessons will be held every Monday from 10.30am and standing-only sessions will be held on Thursday evenings from 6.30pm.

It was an absolute pleasure to teach the residents of Tree Tops some of the gentle seated tai chi exercises. I was really impressed at their enthusiasm for the art. Margaret will be are looking forward to teaching them on a regular basis at their home.
