25th April 2012LYME REGIS: Still dancing after 60 years
AN AXMINSTER couple who met at a dance are still dancing after 60 years of marriage - an occasion which they celebrated in Lyme Regis last week.
Audrey and Will Kelland celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary at a special dinner with fellow members of the Lyme Regis Sequence Dance Club at the Woodmead Halls on Sunday evening.
Accompanied by daughter and son-in-law Linda and John, and son and daughter-in-law David and Georgina, Mr and Mrs Kellend cut a special diamond anniversary wedding cake made especially for the occasion.
Then they enjoyed a dance with club members as they have done every Sunday evening for the past 15 years.
Both members of farming families in North Devon, Mr and Mrs Kelland met at a dance at Huntsham, near Tiverton — and still go back to the villages where they did their courting every Saturday night and where they still have a large circle of dancing friends.
And this coming Saturday they will entertain their friends from North Devon at another special party at Axminster Guildhall.
The couple’s actual anniversary is this Thursday and they will be having a family party at one of their daughter’s homes in Dunkeswell, when they can get all their children together.
The couple have seven children, 13 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
They farmed at Hockley and Hatherleigh in North Devon before moving to Axminster 25 years ago to take over the Prospect Garage in Lyme Road which is now run by their son David.
