By Paul Crompton
A TRANSPORT guide designed especially for Beaminster has been launched.
The colour coded guide focuses on Beaminster and the bus and train options available from the town square.
It is aimed at making life easier for commuters trying to get to places including the farthest reaches of Cornwall to London and the towns in between.
The fold-out Yarn Barton Transport Guide contains cards with timetables and four separate coded maps similar to the ones used on the London Underground.
The brochure cost more than £1,000 to produce, took nine months to complete and has a 20 pence price tag.
John Snow, who designed the brochure, gave a talk explaining the guide to Beaminster Town Council on Monday, April 23rd.
The retired transport planner said the brochure was based on similar initiatives used by the air transport industry.
He said: “It’s something we put together and the council has been supportive of it.
“The brochure was inspired by two things: the vast amount of data on buses in West Dorset but the lack of information, especially in a form that people who use the service can understand.
“So this is for users not necessarily for the system operators who predict the timetables. The second thing was I looked around the various bus stops and not much of the information there was much use.
“So the idea behind this was to put out something that only worked for Beaminster and was simply to use.”
The Yarn Barton Transport Guide is available from Yarn Barton on the corner of Fleet street and Yarn Barton.
