21st March 2012BRIDPORT: Star Wars actor cancels book signing
By Paul Crompton
STAR Wars fans were left disappointed when actor Dave Prowse cancelled his book signing in Bridport. The actor who played villain Darth Vader in the original trilogy of cult films has also cancelled the rest of his country-wide tour to promote his new book.
Mr Prowse was supposed to meet fans in Waterstones bookstore on Saturday to sign copies of his autobiography, Straight From The Force’s Mouth. A spokesman for the high street chain said they had not rescheduled the signing.
They said: “We had a number of events planned for him but it was discussed in conjunction with David Prowse, and really at the instigation of the author, the circumstances were not right to go ahead with the signing so we said we would pull it.”
They added: “He’s pulled the whole tour because all the signings were running in the same way, but we will not comment on the specific issue.
“He held a number of signings with us last year so we know how much the fans look forward to meeting him but it wasn’t us who instigated the cancellation.”
A statement on Mr Prowse’s website, www.darthvader-starwars.com, said he sincerely regretted the book signing tour had been called off.
The statement said: “I have written to Waterstones offering a compromise tour but have had no further communication. The last email from them said that they did not think it likely that the tour would continue. This is sad as it was a pleasure meeting the fans with the Storm Troopers and the Waterstones staff.
“The book signings were hugely successful for all concerned. It is a shame it has ended this way but signed copies of my book can be purchased through my website, also from Amazon unsigned.”
