EAST DEVON: Wildlife event celebrates spring's arrival

East Devon visitor attraction Otterton Mill is hosting a Celebration of Wildlife event on Saturday, March 31st.

This free event is run in association with wildlife partners the Devon Wildlife Trust and RSPB, and heralds the launch of the Mill's new Wildlife Shop.  Developed with guidance from wildlife experts, the shop offers wildlife lovers of all ages a unique range of habitats, feeds, feeders and educational materials with the aim of promoting appreciation and the conservation of wildlife in home gardens.

"We are delighted to be extending our conservation agenda at Otterton Mill by launching our Wildlife Shop and products" said Caroline Spiller, co-owner at the Mill. "A huge proportion of our customers have a keen interest in wildlife and have supported our past initiatives to promote wildlife conservation.  We’re pleased to respond to this interest with a new range of wildlife products, which include frog, hedgehog, and insect habitats for garden environments, and a wide selection of bird feed and feeders" Caroline added.

The Celebration of Wildlife event provides a day of fun and discovery for the whole family, including: a nature trail with the Devon Wildlife Trust; bushcraft and foraging demonstrations with local expert Chris Holland; children's activities with the RSPB; wildlife arts and crafts with the Devon Wildlife Trust; wildlife information stalls, artisan food produce and tastings, and a barbeque.

"With so many of our indigenous wildlife species in the UK becoming increasingly endangered, we are keen to provide information, activities and products which will help customers promote the wild animals of their choosing.  With this event and our new Wildlife Shop we are hoping to inspire the whole family to get involved" said Caroline.

The event runs on Saturday, March 31st at Otterton Mill, from 11am to 4pm.  Entry is free.

Otterton Mill is located between Budleigh Salterton and Sidmouth on the River Otter. It features a one thousand-year-old working watermill, award-winning cafe-restaurant and food shop, artisan bakery, gift, craft and wildlife shop, art gallery, and music venue. Opening hours are 10.00am to 5.00pm daily (plus from 6:00pm in the restaurant on Music & Food Nights). Tel: 01395 568521. Web: www.ottertonmill.com.
