SIDFORD: Social hall goes green thanks to charitable fund

By Laura Goldsbury Noy

Members of Sidford Social Hall Committee received a welcome donation from the Keith Owen Fund, part of the  Sid Vale Association (KOFSVA), this week to help their bid to cut down costs and get green.

Secretary of KOFSVA, Barry Jones, presented a grant of £4,500 to treasurer of Sidford Social Hall, Colin Kingman on Monday. The money was gladly accepted and will help the hall committee move forward in fitting new solar panels.

Also in attendance, was The Reverend Handel Bennett of the Sid Vale Association and chairman of the hall committee, David Baker.

Brian Walton and Dave Johnson from Fords of Sidmouth were also at the
presentation, who have supplied, designed and installated the hall’s new Photovoltaic system, and were pleased to be a part of the project.

Chairman of Sidford Social Hall, Mr Baker said: “With the installation of the solar panels, it will enable the hall to lower it’s energy costs and generate further income in the future, which will benefit all the hirers and will improve our environmental footprint.

“The committee wish to thank the Keith Owen Fund for their grant towards funding this project and also would like to thank Fords of Sidmouth for their help on consultation and installation of the solar system.”

The Reverend Handel Bennett added: “The Sid Vale Association congratulates the management of Sidford Social Hall in taking an important initiative.

“It has risen to the challenge of increasing fuel costs and it has responded to the need to reduce carbon levels globally. The decision to use the latest technology available in solar voltaic cells will undoubtedly achieve positive results in both respects.

“The Keith Owen Fund has been delighted to have played a part in making the project possible and we hope the example of the hall management committee will encourage others to contact us if they need funding within the Sid Valley.”
