7th December 2011PERRY STREET LEAGUE: Double hat-trick for Caddy as Seasiders hit 10
DORSET JUNIOR CUP QF
Bradford Abbas 1 Beaminster Res 3
BEAMINSTER Reserves eased through to the Dorset Junior Cup semi-finals with a 3-1 win at Yeovil League outfit Bradford Abbas.
The Rainbows took the lead when experienced striker Ross Pickett showed excellent technique in chesting down a loose ball before shooting home from the edge of the area.
A goalkeeping error allowed the hosts to equalise before the interval but Man-of-the-Match Matt Hunter, returning after a long injury lay-off, restored the lead and Pickett added his second 15 minutes from time.
Piddlehinton 1 Lyme Regis Res 2 aet
LYME Regis Reserves’ hopes of a first county cup final appearance in 10 years remain on course after a battling extra-time victory at Dorset League Division Three promotion-chasers Piddlehinton.
The hosts came closest to scoring in normal time with a shot that hit the crossbar and bounced down onto the goaline.
The game sparked into life in the extra half-hour. Second-half substitute Ally Rattenbury put the Seasiders ahead in the 98th minute with a deft hooked shot from Sam Bevis’ outswinging corner kick.
The hosts, after once again striking the Seasiders’ crossbar, were level five minutes later when Rob Thom, who had a fine game between the sticks for Lyme, could only get his fingertips to a goalbound effort.
The tie appeared to be heading for a replay when the Bevis/Rattenbury combination struck again with Rattenbury this time heading home the youngster’s flag-kick at the near post.
In addition to Thom, Seasiders’ manager Gerard Hitchcock was impressed with the efforts of his back three of Adam Clark, Rob Larcombe and skipper Luke Clifton.
Semi-Finalists; Lyme Regis Reserves, Beaminster Reserves, Donhead United, Galaxy
PREMIER
Beaminster 2 Farway United 1
The Rainbows took a 1-0 lead into the interval after Ben Ward crossed for Dan Tolman to head home.
Midfielder Dave Penn doubled the lead on the hour with a composed right foot finish, but Farway pulled one back to set up an anxious last 15 minutes.
Beaminster manager selected 16-year-old midfielder Josh Baker as his top performer but was also impressed by centre-back Will Boyer.
Crewkerne 1 Winsham Utd 2
TWO goals from Joe Simmons keeps Winsham United in second place in the table after an impressive win at Henhayes.
The towering Simmons gave the visitors a slender interval lead but Ben Laver netted an equaliser for the Tigers midway through the second-half only for Simmons to strike again to end Crewkerne’s 15-month unbeaten home league record.
Ilminster Res 2 Combe Res 1
ILMINSTER Reserves extended their unbeaten home record with a gritty 2-1 win over Combe Reserves who have now won just once in their last seven outings and look set for another difficult season.
Mike Whitefield and Craig Rice netted for the Ilminster - Sam Johnson scored a 90th minute consolation for the Saints.
Lyme Regis 10 Perry Street 1
LYME Regis’ seeming inexorable march to a sixth Premier Division title continued with a 10-1 thrashing of bottom-of-the-table Perry Street.
The match was a personal triumph for Adam Caddy who became only the fourth Lyme player to score six or more goals in a single game for the first team (Ellis Hoole, Graham Vere and Pat Rice are the others).
Joe Bond, given a start in his preferred striking role, gave Lyme the lead in the fifth minute when he netted at the second attempt after his first effort had been well saved by Mike Barry in the Street goal.
Three minutes later Bond scored again after good work from winger Aaron Cleal.
Barry, who was to have a busy afternoon, then did well to twice deny Caddy with fine saves.
But the onslaught was only denied temporarily as Caddy side-footed home number three and Steve Batey headed home the fourth after 24 minutes.
Perry Street pulled a goal back on the half-hour when Kyran Bailey, son of Alan who had a couple of season’s at the Davey Fort, drilled a superb first time shot past the helpless Will Meech in the Lyme goal.
But the goal only served to cause the Seasiders to go up a gear as Bond completed his hat-trick and Caddy took his tally to four with three more in a nine-minute purple patch and Lyme trooped off for the break an astonishing 8-1 to the good.
Seasiders’ manager Robin Townsend, with next week’s Dorset Intermediate quarter-final in mind, took the opportunity to rest Batey and unsung defensive stalwart Matt Laing at the interval introducing Julien Simier and Will Swales.
Predictably the second-half couldn’t match the first and it wasn’t until the 68th minute when Caddy netted his fifth with a 20-yard free-kick that brought up his century of goals for the club. His double hat-trick, and the scoring, was completed five minutes later with the pick of the goals – a powerful near post header that tore past Barry and high into the net.
The day was soured 10 minutes from time when Julien Simier broke his collarbone under an innocuous challenge from Andrew Board.
S.Petherton 5 W & M Chinnock 1
A HAT-TRICK from Paul Dexter helped South Petherton continue their return to form with 5-1 win over West & Middle Chinnock at Lightgate Lane.
Rich Hebditch and Adam Bourne also scored for Pethy who led 3-0 at the break with Damian Hart replying from the penalty spot after a push on Phil Hooper.
DIVISION ONE
Forton Rangers 3 Netherbury 2
Not for the first time this season, Netherbury found themselves on the wrong end of close scoreline.
The Ambers had all the early possession but went behind after 10 minutes, when a defensive mix up left Tom Melhuish one-on-one with Dan Melish to make it 1-0.
Netherbury’s response was excellent and deservedly got back on level terms, when Reece Bulman robbed the right back and whipped in a cross that Ben Brook converted with a composed sidefoot finish. The visitors continued to have success down the flanks and were causing the Forton defence plenty of problems. They took the lead through a Matt Loxton own goal after some good approach play from Ali Kamara.
This seemed to wake the hosts, who picked their game up and Craig Salter equalised just before half-time.
The game remained close in the second half but It was Forton who crafted the winner with a fine headed goal from Andy Stevenson with only eight minutes to go.
Ryan Gay had the best chance to equalise for the Ambers, when he was put clean through but the Forton ‘keeper saved well.
“The lads played well today, but this isn’t the first, or probably the last, time when we will play the better football and have not got the result our efforts deserved.” said assistant boss Paul Cuff.
Ben Brook and Steve Symonds were picked out as the top performers for the Ambers.
DIVISION TWO
Charmouth 1 Crewkerne Res 3
A JAMIE Smith strike was a mere consolation as Charmouth slipped to a 3-1 home defeat at the hands of Crewkerne Reserves.
Aaron Sweet put Crewkerne ahead but Smith equalised with his first goal for the club before the turnaround.
But second-half goals from Aaron Hodges and George Miles carried the Tigers to victory and a return to the top of the table
Pymore 10 Misterton Res 1
TIM Hussey led the way with a hat-trick as Pymore hit double figures for the first time in almost three years.
Darren Poole (2), Cameron Murless, Chris Good, Gary Correy, Brandon Scadding and an OG completed the rout for Pymore.
Uplyme 3 Thorncombe 0
AFTER going close last week, Uplyme manager Rob Coombe was overjoyed to see his men record their first clean sheet in 13 months.
The Swallows took an early lead courtesy of a neat finish from top-scorer Gavin Fowler who netted his 12th of the campaign so far.
Teenager Adam Neale added number two in the 10th minute with the Thorns defence hopefully appealing for offside.
The scoring was rounded-off in the 82nd minute by Sam Jones who bagged his first goal in first team colours.
Coombe was impressed by goalkeeper Lloyd Cleal and centre-back Stuart King who came out on top in the battle with prolific striker Stuart Packer.
DIVISION THREE
Waytown Hounds 3 Chard United 0
After a cagey opening against top of the table Chard United the Waytowners started to get a grip on the game.
After 30 minutes, left winger Ed Stephenson found Tom Menaldino who carefully picked his spot to set the Hounds on the road to an impressive victory.
Waytown found another gear after the break and when Menaldino’s cross was tucked away by Tom Rutland on the hour Chard were beaten.
Stephenson turned provider once again weaving his way down the wing before picking out Rutland who fired a right foot drive into the net to complete the scoring.
Gary Mansfield, back from travelling, was a rock at centre-back, but the Man-of-the-Match award went to midfielder Dan Dunford who was ferocious all afternoon.
Rob Walter, who used to play for the Hounds when they were a Sunday team, made his debut, a boost for the squad.
DIVISION FOUR
Combe B 0 Lyme Bantams 4
IN-FORM Lyme Regis Bantams chalked up their fifth straight win as Combe B were beaten 4-0 on the Slades Cross slope.
The prolific Pete Peacock put the Seasiders ahead with a close range tap-in before Jamie Quarrington repeated the feat to record his first goal for the club. Peacock then volleyed home from the edge of the box for his 25th goal of the season a minute before the interval.
But the best was yet to come as Patryk Skibinski smashed home a bullet-like drive to complete the scoring in fitting style.
Bantams’ manager Chris Simpson, who gave a debut to ex-Hungarian youth international Viktor Lukacs, picked out defenders Jimmy Harvey and Rob Greenwood as his star men.
