16th November 2011BRIDPORT FOOTBALL: Stur hit by Clarke hat-trick
Sturminster Marshall 1 Bridport Reserves 5
BRIDPORT Reserves followed last week’s goal feast with an excellent win at Sturminster Marshall, a result that sees them leap frog their hosts and move into ninth spot in the Magna Dorset Premier League.
Three up at the break, they coasted through the second half with Ben Clarke completing his hat trick before the hosts grabbed a late consolation.
Clarke got his first inside two minutes following good work between man-of-the-match Dom McAllister and Carl Bulman.
Bridport continued to dominate, and although Jamie Fry was forced into a point blank save from Joe Wood’s header, went further ahead midway through the half when Clarke headed home Robin Jones’ right wing cross.
Adam Steele then rifled home a 25-yard drive soon after and it was game over.
The second half was much the same and Clarke completed his hat trick on the hour when he nipped between a defender and keeper Andy Talbot to lob the ball home. McAllister crowned an excellent game when he drove home Bridport’s fifth from 15 yards from an acute angle ten minutes from time.Darrell Williams then grabbed a late consolation for Stur with a good header.
Joint manager Steve Crabb was delighted with his side that have completed back-to-back victories and scored 12 goals.
“We were very good again and controlled the game from the start. It was a comfortable win and a good team performance in which Dom McAllister stood out with his best game of the season” said Crabb.
This Saturday they host Upwey & Broadway who currently lead Dorset Senior League, in the second round of the Dorset Senior Trophy.
Crabb is concerned as to what team he will be able to play because of the rules regarding players being cup tied having played in a higher league.
“It would be nice to keep the side we have played in the last two matches for some kind of continuity, but the rules prevent me using three who have played for the first team in some capacity this season, so we will have to wait and see who is eligible.”
This same problem caused Bridport Thirds to take to the field with just nine players in their Dorset Intermediate Cup tie at Milborne Port on Saturday.
With eight players unavailable, several being cup tied, nine man Bridport were thrashed 11-0.
