14th October 2011BRIDPORT: The Big Read
THE Bridport Open Book Festival are trying to get everyone reading from the same page with this year’s Big Read event.
The Big Read initiative aims to get everyone in Bridport reading and talking about the same book, whether in book group discussions or over a pint in the pub. The choice for this year’s festival is “Storm Warning”, a collection of short stories on the subject of conflict by former Bridport Prize winner Vanessa Gebbie.
Once you have read the book the festival organisers are inviting you to share your views
on the Open Book Festival blog: www.bridport-open-book.com.
There is also a chance to meet the author who will be in conversation with fellow Bridport Prize winners Judith Allnatt and Adam Marek at Bridport Arts Centre at 6pm on Friday, November 25th.
This year there is also a chance for younger readers to get involved with a Junior Big Read.
The Junior book will be “Enchantment of the Black Dog” by Carol Hunt, which explores a 17th century world of smuggling, witchcraft and piracy.
The novel is set on and around Portland and Weymouth and follows Isabel Maydew as she sets out to unravel the mystery of the phantom Black Dog of Portland.
Junior readers also have the chance to win book tokens and theatre tickets, courtesy of Waterstones and the Bridport Arts Centre, by sharing their reviews and pictures inspired by the “Enchantment of the Black Dog”.
Send them to Bridport Arts Centre, 9 South Street, Bridport, Dorset DT6 3NR or email your reviews to [email protected]
